OpenGOAL on Mac: how to play Jak and Daxter
OpenGOAL runs on a Mac. It is native PC ports of the Jak and Daxter trilogy, from a decompiled codebase and a rebuilt version of the games' own programming language, installed through the OpenGOAL launcher, made by the OpenGOAL team. The current release, launcher 2.11.2 (October 9, 2026), ships a Mac build (separate native builds for Apple Silicon and Intel (native Apple Silicon arrived in August 2026)). You supply your own copy of the game; OpenGOAL supplies everything else.

- macOS 15 Sequoia or later in practice: the launcher checks for it and the game tools are built for it. The project's own docs still say Intel-only and Big Sur; they are out of date

How to install OpenGOAL on a Mac
- Download the launcher .dmg for your Mac from the releases page and install it like any Mac app.
- Open the launcher and pick a folder to install the games into.
- Get past Gatekeeper. macOS blocks it the first time because the project is not signed by Apple. Control-click the app and choose Open. On macOS 13 or later, if that offers no Open button, go to System Settings, then Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway (it appears for about an hour after the first attempt).
OpenGOAL on its official page: download only from there. Sites offering a version with the game already inside are pirated, and often carry malware.
The game file you need
Your own PS2 disc of Jak and Daxter, Jak II or Jak 3: any retail PAL, NTSC or Japanese release, Greatest Hits included, as an .iso (or a folder of its extracted files). PS3, PS4 and PS5 versions are not supported.
Choose Install via ISO and select your file. The launcher extracts the game data and builds the game. Jak 1 is polished, Jak II is in beta, and Jak 3 still has a good amount of work left.
What you get
- Mods and texture packs built into the launcher
- Full controller support, including DualSense trigger effects
Saves and settings live in Not documented for macOS; the launcher has an Open Saves Folder button.
